It's such a gas when you bring up the past
Paranorman! I love this movie. The character designs in particular were just incredible. Read on for some fan art. One of these is kind of a spoiler, FYI.

^My favorite joke in the entire film. Hahahaha, it kills me every time! Along with every single one of Neil's lines and Alvin's horrible face and dance moves and Courtney's pouty-faces.

Somebody's broken heart
Yo! How are you all? Having a good summer? I'm taking advantage of Portland's GORGEOUS but brief summer months over here. Getting outside, doing some summer reading, eating lots of fresh vegetables...it's a total treat. I saw two great movies this week: A Cat in Paris and Safety Not Guaranteed. Both good but the latter, in particular, I highly recommend. Don't read anything about it--just go!
Here's some recent artwork:
First off, a Korra fan art collaboration with Grace Allison. I penciled this, Grace inked it and flatted the digital file, and I finished up the colors. We're doing another piece where our roles are the reverse, and I'll post that as soon as it's complete.

Next, some Lilo & Stitch / Wall-E fan art for a friend:
And last but not least, I posted a preview of this poster in early 2012, but I don't think I ever posted the full thing! This was for a performance of The Thrilling Adventure Hour that included the Hypercattle Overdrive episode of Sparks Nevada, Marshal on Mars. I've plugged it here before, but if this is your first time reading about it, let me say that the whole thing is hilarious and awesome and you should start from the beginning if at all possible (all of the episodes are free on iTunes).
As beautiful as comet bugs in jars

I drew this poster in December for The Thrilling Adventure Hour, that AWESOME, HILARIOUS PODCAST you either are or should be listening to. Sparks Nevada is my favorite segment, but there are tons of great ones like Beyond Belief, Captain Laserbeam!, The Cross-Time Adventures of Colonel Tick-Tock, Amelia Earhart Fearless Flyer, Jefferson Reid Ace American, and Down in Moonshine Holler. Give it a listen! I recommend starting at the beginning and working your way through so you get the inside jokes.

You'll see the world like a bird
Sketch dump! :D I'll be coloring some of these and posting them to my Tumblr, so be sure to visit.
I looooove gender-swapped fan art, but it really bugs me when people essentially just apply costume ornaments from a dude-character to a chick in a swimsuit. That kind of fan art is about as true to the character as this is true to Santa:
"If Thor's beefy for a man, he should be frickin' beefy for a woman," said Tally to no one.
That's a little comic from my ALA Anaheim trip last weekend. By the way, that was a good time. I bought signed copies of Smile from Raina Telgemeier and July Diary from Gabrielle Bell, was surprised to sell out of books at my Image signing, met tons of awesome people, and even got to go to Disneyland. I would definitely go to ALA again, and am considering the Seattle conference this winter.
People in L.A. show a lot of skin! I had a bit of culture shock. I feel really self-conscious when I wear a tank top. Nonetheless it was nice being in that warm, predictable climate for a while.
Something weird happened on Monday. I'd spent all weekend doing the convention and hadn't had a chance to sketch for fun in daaaaays. My family made a last stop before the airport in Huntington Beach, and I told them I wanted to just sit on an inconspicuous bench and draw people for a while. 5 minutes later, a nice woman asked me if I did caricatures! I said sure and drew her, her husband, and her son for about 15 minutes. She offered to pay me but we settled on her buying me ice cream xD It was bizarre but also really nice to think that I might be able to survive if I was stranded somewhere with just my sketchbook and pencil.
And on with the DC fan art.... :D
My mental image of Catwoman comes from...
A) Darwyn Cooke,
B) Adam Hughes
C) Batman the Animated Series

Telling me to be ready
I got to attend a sneak-peek of Pixar’s Brave last night. I made reaction comics like the ones I did for Prometheus and they’ll go live next Thursday, but for now here’s some fan art.

Defeat? I don't think so!

New fan art for Spirited Away:

This is not actually among my favorite Ghibli movies, although I find it to be beautiful and very fun to watch. I like the characters a lot and laugh at the jokes. The themes of self-discovery, cultural reconnection, and creating your own purpose in life are wonderful. I even cry at that part where Haku and Chihiro are falling! It's just...you know when you can recognize that something is good without actually connecting to it that strongly? It's that for me.
It's probably because I like some of Studio Ghibli's other movies VERY much and they set the bar ridiculously high for me.

New fan art: It Girl from Mike Allred's Madman universe!

I like that she has holsters but not guns, and I think her costume is sexy without being dumb.
