Last but not least, tonight is First Thursday in Portland, and I'm going to a dual event at Floating World Comics to see Robopocalypse (featuring friends Matt Grigsby and Terry Blas) and Teenage Dinosaur's exhibit PLUS Jamie Rich and Joelle Jones (I'm sorry, Joelle...I'm still trying to figure out how to type umlauts @___@) doin' another You Have Killed Me signing.

This fountain piece is still marching slowly on...That's the last of the people, but next comes the cascading water in the fountains. Very intimidating. Should I dry brush...? Try to copy the photo identically...? I like it too much to mess it up now!

Yesterday, Periscope intern comrade Emi Lenox invited me to join the sketch group she keeps with Angie Wang. It was so cool! We went to a swanky Pearl District cafe and talked for a couple of hours, with a little drawing in there, too. :P I'm still new to this 'other people draw comics' thing, so I appreciate meeting more people who do, especially in Portland. Both gals are funny, talented, and just the kind of people you feel lucky to know. :D And check out their sites! Holy skills, Batman!

Love From The Depths

I LOVE Tomihiro Hoshino's haiku and illustrations. My high school Japanese teacher showed me some of his work, and I always meant to go back and learn more about him. I got to incorporate his art and poetry into my paper for disabilities class on artists with acquired disabilities or impairments (he was paralyzed from the neck down while teaching gymnastics), and had an excuse to read Clocks of Different Paces, one of his many books. So good!

Two beans rather than just one.
Two people rather than just one.
I think that is surely more natural.
I eat green soybeans side by side with my wife.

A spear flower bears little red berries among dry grass in the shadow of the bank.
And those red berries can't be created by the big tree towering next to it.
Nor even the human beings who went out into space.
